Then, the products were evaluated and analyzed according to the PEF guidelines. The results were used to support the development of the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) for the decorative paints product group and to test the methodology.<\/p>\n<p>Ecomatters applied their expertise and took a flexible approach to contribute to the project. This included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Autonomous execution of the analysis based on defined questions<\/li>\n<li>Adjustment to the project requirements, goal, and scope<\/li>\n<li>Specific and deep knowledge of PEF\/LCA methodologies<\/li>\n<li>Flexible and effective feedback and presentation of results<\/li>\n<li>Efficient execution of the study and report<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\"><\/div><style>.vcex-heading.vcex_69e8a0286a9d4{font-size:22px;font-weight:600;}<\/style><h2 class=\"vcex-heading vcex-heading-plain vcex-module wpex-heading wpex-text-2xl vcex_69e8a0286a9d4\"><span class=\"vcex-heading-inner wpex-inline-block\">PEF background<\/span><\/h2>[vc_column_text]\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>The European Commission is developing the PEF methodology as a way to standardize environmental footprint calculations. In order to test the methodologies within different industries,\u00a0<span id=\"hkmuob-id-8556\" class=\"hkmuob_noscript\"><a title=\"PEF Pilots\" href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/environment\/eussd\/smgp\/ef_pilots.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">27 PEF pilot projects<\/a><\/span>\u00a0were launched in 2013 and 2014.\u00a0<span id=\"hkmuob-id-3350\" class=\"hkmuob_noscript\"><span id=\"hkmuob-id-1678\" class=\"hkmuob_noscript\"><a title=\"CEPE\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cepe.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CEPE\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0was selected to lead the Technical Secretariat of the pilot project for decorative paints. Therefore, CEPE commissioned Ecomatters to conduct the Screening study on select products in this category.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, projects such as this are going on in order to support the development of the category rules for calculating environmental footprint in each industry. The idea is to have a system where most products will have customized guidelines for calculating environmental footprint.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, this methodology is an initiative within the Resource Efficiency Roadmap<em>,\u00a0<\/em>and will potentially be relevant for future green public procurement, eco-labelling schemes and tax frameworks (e.g. value added tax,
