Sustainability Maturity Service

Do you want to know how your organization performs relative to competitors? Or do you want to know the maturity level of your sustainability performance based on leading standards? Our benchmarking approach helps you to assess your sustainability performance and to compare it to the expectations of stakeholders, competitors, best practices, standards and / or colleagues. This will enable improved strategic positioning.

Our approach

In conjunction with a method of the University of Leiden and Delft University of Technology, Ecomatters has developed a method which provides a comprehensive and structured approach to evaluate the sustainability performance of your organization individually or in a (sector) group.

Step 1: Determine sustainability themes and the comparison group

How sustainability issues are dealt with within your organization is assessed on the basis of (a selection of) themes from generally accepted sustainability standards, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the Social Accountability International’s SA8000, the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme ( EMAS) and ISO26000 standard for social responsibility.

It often happens that not all issues are equally relevant to an organization. Therefore, we will always accentuate specific themes. By including your preference in the benchmark, products and services will be judged on criteria that are most relevant to your organization.

Step 2: Interviews

In a series of personal interviews with key internal stakeholders, the ambition levels and performance of your organization will be evaluated, to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.

Step 3: External analysis

It is important to be evaluated by external experts, to make a fair comparison. After all, it is not uncommon for organizations to overestimate or underestimate their achievements. An external analysis can therefore also discover ‘new’ strengths.

Step 4: The results as a starting point

Based on the results, the internal sustainability agenda can be evaluated and (re)designed by adapting it to the sustainability topics in which you want to be leading. And if the comparison is not anonymous, participating organizations can learn from each other’s strengths.

Why do a benchmark with Ecomatters?

With a good reliable analysis, you can learn how the world sees you (external perspective), which enables your organization to react and respond better. Due to our extensive expertise in the use of sustainability for business opportunities, you will not only fully understand the main strengths and weaknesses of your sustainability agenda, but use these also for potential business risks and opportunities. So, please ask us about the services that we can provide you with. In consultation we can define best what is most useful for your specific situation.
