The Eco-Design tool has been developed as part of the DECOAT Project, a project under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. The main goal of the project is to enable the recycling of coated and painted textile and plastic materials by exploring novel triggerable smart polymer material systems and the corresponding recycling processes. In alignment with that goal, the tool aims to support the industrial partners in identifying potential business opportunities related to the DECOAT project and to provide relevant information on various topics, specified to the industry, product and preferences of the partner.

The Eco-Design tool is divided in two parts: the current online version and a downloadable excel version which can be found on the last page of the tool. The online version provides advice on the most suitable debonding technology based on the selected substrate and coating combinations and respective product performance indicators. The downloadable version includes more information on the environmental performance of each solution, as well as possible challenges and opportunities in their circularity, chemical safety and economic performance.
