Ecomatters attends DECOAT General Assembly

Last week Ecomatters attended the General Assembly meeting of DECOAT, an EU-funded Horizon 2020 project exploring the potential of debondable coatings of polymers and appropriate recycling processes. Taking place in Vigo, Spain, the meeting provided an opportunity for the 17 partners to come together in person to share their progress, ideas, and expertise with one another.

As a key project partner, Ecomatters presented an update on the current progress within our work package and on the next steps for the project. First, our colleague Liz Adams presented the Life Cycle Assessment we are carrying out, explaining how it will be used to identify the environmental impacts and benefits associated with the innovative technologies being explored within the project. Following this, Brienne Wiersema talked us through the Eco-Design Tool Ecomatters is developing. The tool will provide a straightforward way for partners, and the wider industry, to identify suitable coatings solutions, assess their environmental performance, and provide them with Eco-design advice relating to topics such as Life Cycle Analysis and Life Cycle Costing.

Beginning in 2018 and spanning four years, DECOAT will conclude in mid-2023. The General Assembly meeting allowed all partners to come together and discuss activities to be completed over the upcoming months.
